How is the course delivered?

Training is delivered via Blended (Face to Face + Online Distance).

Course Duration: This course is designed to be completed in up to 52 weeks (including holidays).

Expected Study Hours: Typical learners are expected to spend 1228 hours depending on existing knowledge, skills, and experience.

What will you learn?

This course is designed to develop your expertise in providing person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason. Among others, you will learn to:

How is the course structured?

All learners will be assessed through:

  • Observation during role play/simulation
  • Questioning may include self-assessment, verbal answers, written questionnaires, activity modules or interview
  • Structured Activities may include Projects, Case studies, presentations, role play, demonstration, progressive tasks
What are the entry requirements?

There are no pre-requisites to enter this training program. However, MANAWISE Education screens students according to the following criteria:

  • Are 18 years of age and over
  • Are living or working in Australia
  • Have successfully completed at least Australian high school year 10, or equivalent
  • Have basic computer skills
  • Have sound Language, Literacy and Numeracy skills (at least Year 10, or equivalent where suitability will be determined utilising MANAWISE Education’s LLN Assessment Tool prior to enrolment*)

What are the resources needed to complete the course?

To support you in your new course with MANAWISE Education, we will provide the following:

      • For the support of people living with dementia that reflect a range of dementia symptoms and identified behaviour and support services

  • Modelling of industry operating conditions, including:
    • Presence of problem solving activities
    • Real interactions with the person and their families or carers
  • PPE relevant to the workplace and job role of the worker
  • Health information for people who are ageing or living with disability
  • Legislative and statutory instruments related to reporting
  • Information on local resources, programs, agencies, transport services, aids and equipment available to people with disability
  • Opportunities for engagement with people receiving support services according to an individualised plan or people who participate in simulations and scenarios that involve provision of support services according to an individualised plan
  • Opportunities for engagement with people living with dementia and their family, carer or others identified by the person and others involved in service provision
  • Opportunities for engagement with people receiving care
  • Opportunities for engagement with people with disability or people who participate in simulations and scenarios thatinvolve provision of disability support in a range of contexts
  • Opportunities for engagement with people in palliative or end-of-life care or people who participate in simulations and scenarios that involve provision of palliative or end-of-life care in a range of contexts.

To complete your course, you will need ongoing access to the following:

  • Computer/laptop with relevant software such as, but not limited to, the following:
    • internet access preferably through Google Chrome
    • MS Word and PowerPoint

  • Webcam, microphone and headphones/speakers for video calls
Vocational Placement

Mandatory Vocational Placement

Learners are required to undertake a minimum of 120 hours of vocational placement within a registered and approved service provider. This must occur after the student has satisfactorily completed all the other units/subjects in this qualification.

During this time, the learners are required to complete a skills workbook.

Learners have the option to:

  • Source their own vocational placement providers (MANAWISE Education to check suitability), or
  • Have MANAWISE Education assist them in arranging vocational placement providers near their area.

MANAWISE Education will continuously look for and form partnerships with service providers in Queensland and other states in the future.

MANAWISE Education will provide learners a vocational placement pack that outlines all the requirements for finding a suitable vocational placement provider that will facilitate the required workplace assessments and allow the learner to complete the required vocational placement hours.

Learners are recommended to initiate contact with potential vocational placement providers as soon as enrolment is confirmed to allow sufficient time for MANAWISE Education to confirm the workplace’s safety and suitability.

Vocational placement providers must allow access to:

  • Vocational workplace supervisor(s) to supervise and confirm completion of the required tasks in the Skills Workbook. The workplace supervisor must:
    • Have adequate knowledge and understanding of ageing and disability care
    • Have the ability to effectively supervise and manage ageing and disability care services
    • Have the necessary experience and qualification/s in the area of individual support specialising in ageing and disability (e.g., they have the relevant VET qualification/s, Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing and Disability) or higher)
  • Use of suitable facilities, equipment and resources that reflect real working conditions and model industry operation conditions and contingencies, including:
    • Current legislation, regulations and codes of practice
    • National standards and guidelines for infection prevention and control and hand hygiene

Students enrolled in this course may also choose to study other courses that will support them in their Community Service skills. Other options available for students may include the following qualifications:
