The CHC42021 Certificate IV in Community Services is the latest nationally accredited qualification for community serviceworkers who deliver and support person-centred services to individuals and groups. Workers may provide support,advocacy or interventions to individual persons, groups or communities across a range of services. This course is perfectfor learners who wish to work in roles such as:

How is the course delivered?

Training is delivered via Blended (Face to Face + Online Distance).

Course Duration: This course is designed to be completed in up to 52 weeks (including holidays).

Expected Study Hours: Typical learners are expected to spend 881 hours depending on existing knowledge, skills, andexperience.

What will you learn?

This course is designed to develop your expertise in working with the youth. Among others, you will learn to:

  • Facilitate the interests and rights of clients
  • Recognise and respond appropriately to domestic and family violence

  • Develop and maintain networks and collaborative partnerships
How is the course structured?

All learners will be assessed through:

  • Observation during role play/simulation
  • Questioning may include self-assessment, verbal answers, written questionnaires, activity modules or interview
  • Third-party
  • Structured Activities may include Projects, Case studies, presentations, role play, demonstration, progressive tasks
What are the entry requirements?

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification. However, MANAWISE Education screens students according to the following criteria:

  • Are 18 years of age and over
  • Are living or working in Australia
  • Have successfully completed at least Australian high school year 10, or equivalent
  • Have basic computer skills
  • Have sound Language, Literacy and Numeracy skills (at least Year 10, or equivalent where suitability will be determined utilising MANAWISE Education’s LLN Assessment Tool prior to enrolment*)

*Learners who do not meet the LLN requirements of the course may still enrol into the course provided the enrolment has been endorsed by the trainer and corresponding additional support strategies have been put in place.

  • Workplace scenarios, including the opportunity to:
    • Interact with other people, including:
      • clients and co-workers from at least 3 different social and cultural backgrounds
      • people displaying aggression, distress and cognitive impairment
      • persons approved of by local community elders
      • children
    • Facilitate groups of at least 3 people
    • Interact with at least 3 clients affected by domestic and family violence
    • Take part in at least 3 problem solving activities
    • Develop strategies for networking and collaborating for an organisation
    • Collaborate with external parties in at least 3 instances
    • Conduct a workplace risk assessment
    • Apply workplace safety during day-to-day work activities
    • Contribute to the planning and reviewing of services which meet the needs of at least 3 people
    • Interact with people with a range of needs
    • Recognise and respond to at least 3 different situations where behaviours of concern are present
    • Deal with at least 5 behaviours of concern
    • Communicate effectively in a situation of conflict
    • Undertake brief intervention process for at least 2 people with different issues at different stages of the change processĀ 
    • Provide information to at least 3 people presenting with multi-faceted needs
    • Collect and document identifying information for at least 3 people accessing the service
    • Promote Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural safety in a workplace
    • Evaluate ways to improve communication with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples who may be clients or colleagues
    • Facilitate at least 5 changeovers for different clients with varied circumstances
    • Facilitate and monitor at least 5 contact sessions for different clients presenting with varied circumstances
    • Communicate effectively with vulnerable or hostile parents and children in crisis
    • Complete case notes and incident reports
  • Additional course readings and resources recommended by trainers.

To complete your course, you will need ongoing access to the following:

What are the course fees?

All students pay a $200 non-refundable student contribution fee upon registration. This will release the first unit.

The CHC402021 consists of 15 units. Course fees are $300.00 per unit across all modes of delivery (online, face-to-face and RPL), or $4,500.00 in total. The student contribution fee is additional to this.

For those working within our partner organisation MANAWISE, a 50% sponsorship contribution will be applied. This will bring the cost of the qualification to $2,250.00 or $150 per unit!

Is Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) available?

MANAWISE Education has a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Policy, to ensure that an individual’s prior learning, achieved through formal and informal training, work experience or other life experiences, is appropriately recognised. This recognition may assist Learners to progress faster through a unit of competency, or allow the student full credit.
